Indian Summer Diary. I love Canada, Canada love me.

2016 (September 28th to October 8th, 2016)

It is an attempt to "sublimate" the double denial of a temporary visa for artist Luis Manuel Otero Alcántara to participate in residencies in Canada - “En el Camino” and “En el Camino, Part 1” - curated , organized and financed by Elegoa Producciones Culturales - in collaboration with prestigious Canadian and American cultural organizations, as well as independent cultural managers: OCAD University, Onsite Gallery, Plug In Contemporary Art Center, Wanda Nanibush (Canadian curator), Art Department of the University at Buffalo (Buffalo, USA), Hallwalls Center for Contemporary Art (Buffalo, USA), School of Media Arts, Columbia College (Chicago, USA), Nicholas Quiring (architect, USA). USA)

Faced with the impossibility of carrying out this trip, the 10-day residence program that Luis was going to develop was represented day by day, from a rented space in Cerro (Havana). This trip took place from September 28th to October 9th, 2016.

I want to dedicate "Indian Summer Diary" to the Canadian Immigration services, with the hope that Luis Manuel Otero Alcántara, as well as other artists who apply for visas with a creative vision and with the support of committed Canadian agents and institutions, can obtain the permission to visit Canada, for cultural exchange purposes with Canadians citizens, and for research and development of their works of art. I hope that creativity can be recognized as an integral element of intercultural dialogue, and taken into account in the evaluation process for Canada visa applications.
