Cause #1 of 2019 is an audiovisual and photographic series that recreates from fiction, some of the thousands of farces that are used to accuse political opponents in Cuba. In those cases, crimes are invented and trials are arranged. These series of photographs, made in collaboration with Anyelo Troya, shows the incriminating evidence that could attest to the cause for which the artist Luis Manuel Otero Alcántara will be sentenced in a foreseeable future.
In cause #1 of 2019, the artist performs the action of being ahead of time, and this is a wake-up call about the decline of power and its twisted final movements, which only confirm its unlegitimized status.

After the impossibility of holding the exhibition with the works from the Chicles sin Saliva series, Luis Manuel decides to carry out the Garrote Vil performance as part of the Causa #1 series of 2019. This was read by the State Security as an instigation. For this reason, they raided the artist's home while he was carrying out the performance, seized the piece that simulated the garrote, tore up the drawings from the Chicles sin Saliva series and detained Luis Manuel and the artist Afrika Reina for 24 hours. The pieces were never returned.
