The idea of ​​holding the #00Havana Biennial was born when the Cuban Ministry of Culture postponed the celebration of the XIII Biennial of Havana, scheduled for October 2018. It was held from May 5th to 15th, 2018, and it had as its slogan In each studio a Biennial, relying not only on the workshops and independent spaces, but also on online platforms (social media, web pages, etc.). Its main goals were to promote a variety of realities that are observed in the art, to visibilize those artists who did not know the academic structure of the institutionality, generate a reflection on the original concept of the Havana Biennial, which proposed an emphasis on the practices of the so-called Third World and other non-privileged spaces and establish a dialogue with the people, their ideas and needs. It was produced through individual fundraising, exchange of experiences and materials among the participants themselves. It was organized by a group of artists and collectives, among which Yanelys Nuñez Leyva, Katherine Bisquet, Iris Ruiz, Amaury Pacheco, José Ernesto Alonso, Yuri Obregón, etc. Despite the pressure and intimidation imposed by the Cuban State Security police, the #00Biennial was attended by more than 170 Cuban and foreign artists.
